Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is one of the major complications caused by COVID-19. Although not every coronavirus patient develops ARDS, the ones who do usually end up in the intensive care unit.  The CDC notes that approximately 20-42 percent of hospitalized coronavirus cases will develop ARDS.

Dr. Zhen Yan found that an antioxidant that helps protect against disease can be produced through exercise. This antioxidant is called extracellular superoxide dismutase (EcSOD), and although our muscles naturally make (EcSOD), Dr. Yan’s study showed that the production of this antioxidant is increased by cardiovascular exercise.

The key point here – make sure you’re doing some form of cardiovascular exercise on a regular basis to ensure you stay healthy during this pandemic!
